At The Monastery, Art Will Save Us isn't just a slogan.
We don’t mean that art erases hardship, fixes every problem, or offers an easy escape from the world around us. We mean that art has a way of bringing us back to ourselves and back to one another. It helps us tell the truth, process what we carry, imagine what is possible, and remember that beauty, grief, hope, and belonging can all exist in the same room.
Throughout history, people have turned to creativity during seasons of grief, joy, uncertainty, healing, celebration, and transformation. Whether through painting, music, poetry, photography, dance, sculpture, or simply making something with our hands, art has always been one of humanity's oldest ways of understanding ourselves and one another.
The Chronicles
Every person has a story.
Many of those stories include a moment when art offered comfort, purpose, courage, or hope.
This page exists to preserve those stories.
Here you'll find conversations with members of our community who share, in their own words, how creativity shaped their lives. Some are professional artists. Many are not. What they share is the belief that art changed something within them.
Perhaps it will change something within you, too.
